At the junction of Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos lies the “Golden Triangle,” a vast forested region once rich in gold and gemstones but long turned into a lawless frontier shaped by conflict and the drug trade. After the Chinese Civil War ended in 1949, a remnant force of the Republic of China army retreated into this region.
